How UV Light Air-Purification Works
Ultraviolet-C (UV-C) light damages the DNA and RNA of microorganisms, preventing them from reproducing and rendering them inactive. There are two common HVAC applications:
- In-duct UV lights: Mounted inside the ductwork downstream of the air handler to disinfect air as it circulates.
- Coil-mounted UV lights: Installed near the evaporator coil and drain pan to prevent biological growth on the coil surface and in standing water.
